These welding machines are generally used to weld materials in a vertical or near vertical direction; and has wide application in steel industry.
Welding Process
The welding process comprises of melting surfaces of the metal welds and the filler metal with a fluid or molten slag to produce fusion. It involves passing an electric arc through the slag in order to heat it, wherein the arc is extinguished by the slag. Contrary to other fusion welding processes, this is not an arc process. The heat energy required to melt both the welding wire and the plate ends is induced through a molten slag's resistance to the passage of an electric current.
Uses & Applications
The machine is widely used in many industries for various applications. Some of its application areas are:
- Joining steel plates
- Bridge construction
- Ship building
- Welding large metal structures
- Fabrication industry
- Welding railway points
- Thick walled pressure vessels
- Blast furnace shells
