Arc welding points to a type of
welding process that makes use of a welding power supply to create an
electric arc between an electrode and the base material to melt the
metals at the welding point. The welding machines used for this type of
welding process is known as arc welder. These welders can use either
direct (DC) or alternating (AC) current, and consumable or
non-consumable electrodes.
Arc welders work by applying intense heat to melt metal at the joint
between two parts and causing them to intermix. In arc welding process,
the intense heat needed to melt metal is produced by an electric arc.
